The Ministry of Defence is actively proceeding to revoke the Duke's final honorary title in accordance with the wishes of the King, the official has said.
The defense secretary confirmed King Charles had "made clear this is his preference".
Andrew, who was stripped of his title as a prince on Thursday, maintained his naval rank in the UK naval forces after surrendering his additional military roles in two years ago.
"This represents the proper step, the Monarch has signaled we should proceed with this and we are currently addressing this matter," the defense secretary told a television interview.
