Person That Touched Ariana Grande on the occasion of Premiere Prohibited from Singapore
An Australian man who jumped over a barricade and reached for celebrity Ariana Grande has been deported and prohibited from Singapore.
The individual, 26, was given a sentence to more than a week in detention for being a public nuisance and has now been "barred from re-entering Singapore," Singaporean immigration authorities told local media.
He forced his way through camera crews and charged at the actress and singer, who was participating in the Asian premier for the film on 13 November. Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo intervened to remove him from Grande.
He has a background of causing disturbances at events and star-studded occasions, including leaping onto the platform at the pop star's Australian show in June this year.
The occurrence sparked outrage in Singapore, with many claiming he of causing further distress to the star.
The celebrity has discussed experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist bombing at her concert in Manchester in spring of 2017 resulted in the deaths of over twenty people and injured hundreds.
During Wen's trial, the court heard he had attempted to intrude on the red carpet event on two occasions, according to local news sources.
He then made a second attempt to jump the barricades. Event security intercepted him and pinned him down.
Wen later posted video clips expressing gratitude to the star for letting him on the carpet and said he was "at liberty."
Authorities took him into custody the subsequent day and accused him with disorderly conduct, to which he confessed.
The District Judge Christopher Goh was referenced by Channel News Asia as saying that Wen was "attention seeking", noting that he was wrong to think he would not experience repercussions.
The singer has not addressed the case.
The co-star discussed the event to a media outlet, saying that she "only aimed to make sure my colleague was secure."
"I think he didn't intend us danger, but you cannot be certain with these incidents, and I sought to make sure that she was OK. That was my immediate response," she said.
