Rybakina secured the largest prize in WTA all time by overcoming world number one Aryna Sabalenka in two sets at the tournament.

Rybakina delivered a brilliant performance to beat four-time Grand Slam winner Sabalenka in two sets in the host country.

Because both players advanced through the event undefeated, the prize money on offer was a unprecedented £3.98 million – the biggest prize awarded in WTA history.

The reward exceeds the £3.74m Sabalenka earned for claiming September's US Open, which was the most lucrative Grand Slam in 2025.

"This has been an incredible week," said the Kazakh player.

"Truly couldn't have predicted this outcome so to win the title was just unbelievable."

"Let me offer praise to Aryna for holding the top spot for a second consecutive year running, it's an tremendous accomplishment."

Rybakina, who was the world number six, hit sixteen winners during a dominant first-set display.

Rybakina fended off two chances before taking all four points in the sixth game of the set to take the break and held her serve to win the opening set.

As the second set progressed, Sabalenka defended two opportunities at four-all to shift the balance in her favor.

However, having worked so hard to disrupt Rybakina's rhythm, Sabalenka let her opponent off the hook by wasting two set points in the following game to tie the second set at five-all.

Sabalenka's failure to force a decider impacted her tie-break performance, with Rybakina taking every point to take home the title.

The victory, her sixth triumph over Sabalenka, means Rybakina will move up one place in the WTA rankings to fifth in the world.

A distraught the runner-up was seen crying as she sat with her team shortly after the match.

"That was not the best display from me today but Elena you were certainly the superior competitor," the Belarusian told the audience.

"You really overpowered me on court. I'm happy to see you at your peak. Celebrate this beautiful title."
